Equipment

  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Measuring cups
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Glass jar for storage

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup 240ml water
  • 1/2 cup 100g rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup 100g sugar (can substitute with honey or other sweeteners)
  • 2 tablespoons 30ml soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon 15g cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons (30ml) water (for thickening)
  • 2 tablespoons 30g chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 clove 3g garlic, minced

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the water, rice vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, chili flakes, and minced garlic. Stir well to combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Once it starts to boil, reduce the heat to low.
  • Add the cornstarch slurry while constantly whisking until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool before transferring to a glass jar for storage.

Notes

This sweet chili sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
For a thicker sauce, simply simmer for longer.
If you want a vegan option, ensure that your sugar is vegan-friendly.
