Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Wooden Spoon or Dough Scraper
  • 1 Kitchen Scale
  • 1 Baking Stone or Baking Sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 1 cup 240g sourdough starter (active and bubbly)
  • 1 and 1/2 cups - 360ml warm water
  • 4 cups 480g all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil - plus more for greasing

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter with warm water and blend well.
  • Gradually add the flour and salt to the bowl, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rest for 1 hour.
  • After resting, turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 3-6 hours or until doubled in volume.
  • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
  • Divide the dough into two equal pieces and shape each into a ball. Let them rest for 15 minutes.
  • Roll out each dough ball into a circular shape, about 12 inches wide, and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Add your favorite pizza toppings and bake for 10-15 minutes until the crust is golden.
  • Remove from the oven, slice, and enjoy your homemade sourdough pizza!

Notes

If you're looking for a flavorful and chewy pizza crust, this sourdough pizza dough is a must-try. Here are some tips:
  • Starter: Make sure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly for the best results.
  • Resting Time: Allow the dough to rest for at least an hour after mixing, which will make it easier to stretch.
  • Flour Types: You can experiment with different types of flour, like whole wheat or spelt, for added flavor and nutrition.
  • Preheat your oven: Preheat your oven and pizza stone or baking sheet to get that perfect crispy base.
