Pan-seared tuna steaks are a delicious and easy way to prepare tuna. The tangy and salty flavors of the capers perfectly complement the tender and juicy tuna. This dish is perfect for a quick and healthy weeknight dinner.
Season the tuna steaks with salt and pepper on both sides.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a drizzle of olive oil.
Once the skillet is hot, carefully add the tuna steaks in a single layer.
Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the tuna is seared and cooked to your desired level of doneness.
Remove the tuna steaks from the skillet and set aside on a cutting board.
In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and capers. Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
In a small bowl, mix together the lemon juice and broth. Pour this mixture into the skillet with the garlic and capers.
Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low.
Add the tuna steaks back to the skillet and let them simmer in the sauce for 1-2 minutes.
Turn off the heat and add the butter, swirling it around the pan to melt.
Serve the tuna steaks with the caper sauce spooned over the top.
Notes
It's important to use sushi-grade tuna for this recipe as it is meant to be served medium-rare. If you prefer your tuna more well-done, cook it for an additional minute on each side.If you don't have capers, you can substitute with chopped green olives.
