Equipment

  • 1 Skillet
  • 1 Cooking spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef - Lean (for rich flavor)
  • 1 Small Onion - Chopped (adds sweetness)
  • 2 Tbls. Prepared Yellow Mustard
  • 2 Tbls. Vinegar - for tanginess
  • 2 Tbls. Sugar - balances flavors
  • 1 Tbls. Water
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. Celery Seed - for a hint of earthiness
  • 1/4 tsp. Tabasco Sauce - adjust to taste
  • 1/4 cup Catsup - Approximate (Use enough to keep mixture loose)

Instructions

  • In a salted skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion, breaking up the meat with a fork to crumble fine. Drain off excess fat.
  • Add mustard, vinegar, sugar, water, Worcestershire sauce, celery seed, and Tabasco sauce to the skillet. Mix well.
  • Add enough catsup to keep the mixture loose and stir to combine.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 35 to 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve the sauce over hot weiners in buns.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add more Tabasco sauce to the meat mixture.
You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version!
Serve with your favorite hot dog buns and top with shredded cheese, chopped onions, or extra mustard for flavor variation.
