Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup ketchup - for base consistency
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar - for tanginess
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar - for sweetness
  • 1/4 cup honey - for additional sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce - for depth of flavor
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard - for a bit of kick
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika - for smokiness
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder - for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder - for flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt - to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper - to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper - optional, for heat

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper if using.
  • Whisk the ingredients together until well combined.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Once it starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool before using. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

This barbecue sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. If you prefer a spicier sauce, feel free to add cayenne pepper or hot sauce. For a sweeter sauce, increase the brown sugar by a couple of tablespoons.
Serve this sauce on grilled meats, use it as a marinade, or even as a dipping sauce for appetizers like chicken wings and fries.
