Classic Cabbage Roll Casserole with Beef and Tomato Sauce
This comforting cabbage roll casserole combines layers of seasoned beef, rice, and tender cabbage topped with a rich tomato sauce, making it an easy and hearty meal for the whole family.
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
In a mixing bowl, combine beef mixture, cooked rice, salt, pepper, oregano, and basil.
In a baking dish, layer half of the chopped cabbage at the bottom.
Spread the beef and rice mixture evenly over the cabbage layer.
Top with the remaining cabbage, and pour the tomato sauce over the entire casserole.
Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender.
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
