This barbecued chicken is bursting with flavor and is perfect for any summer cookout. The chicken is marinated in a homemade barbecue sauce and then grilled to perfection.
In a mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Place the chicken breasts in a large ziplock bag and pour in the barbecue sauce. Marinate in the fridge for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
Take the chicken out of the marinade and discard the excess sauce. Place the chicken on the grill and cook for 10 minutes on each side, basting with the remaining marinade during the last few minutes of cooking.
Once the chicken is cooked through and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F, remove from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes.
Serve the barbecued chicken hot with your favorite side dishes.
Notes
For a smokier flavor, add a few drops of liquid smoke to the barbecue sauce. If you don't have a grill, you can also cook the chicken in the oven at 375°F for 20-25 minutes, basting with the sauce halfway through. For a spicier kick, add more cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the barbecue sauce.
