Ingredients
  

  • 4 large sweet onions
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh chopped herbs optional, for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
  • Peel and cut the onions into thick slices, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • In a small saucepan, mix together the balsamic vinegar, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper. Cook over medium heat until the sauce begins to thicken, about 5 minutes.
  • Brush the onion slices with the balsamic glaze on both sides.
  • Place the onion slices on the preheated grill and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until lightly charred.
  • While grilling, continue to baste the onions with the remaining balsamic glaze.
  • Once the onions are cooked, remove them from the grill and transfer to a plate.
  • Garnish with fresh chopped herbs (optional) and serve hot.

Notes

For a smoky flavor, add a little bit of smoked paprika to the balsamic glaze.
These grilled onions make a great topping for burgers and sandwiches.
If you don’t have a grill, you can also cook the onions on a stovetop grill pan.
Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
